Main Switchboards

At iEngineering, we design, assemble, and supply Low Voltage (LV) Distribution Switchboards fully compliant with the AS/NZS 61439 standard. Our switchboards are engineered for reliability, safety, and durability in the Oceania region’s challenging environmental conditions, including tropical climates, high humidity, and coastal exposure.

Each switchboard is type-tested and verified to meet the mechanical, electrical, and thermal performance requirements specified under AS/NZS 61439-1 and AS/NZS 61439-2.

Compliance with AS/NZS 61439

The AS/NZS 61439 standard defines construction, testing, and verification requirements for Low Voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. Our LV switchboards comply with the following key parameters:

  • Temperature rise verification
  • Dielectric properties
  • Short-circuit withstand strength
  • Clearances and creepage distances
  • Protection against electric shock
  • Mechanical operation and degree of protection (IP rating)

All assemblies are designed and verified to ensure safe operation and long service life under rated conditions.

IP Rating (Degree of Protection)

The IP rating defines the level of protection provided by the switchboard enclosure against dust and moisture ingress. Our LV switchboards are available in the following protection categories as per AS/NZS 60529:

  • IP42 / IP43: Indoor applications with minimal dust or moisture exposure.
  • IP54 / IP55: General industrial and commercial indoor environments.
  • IP65 / IP66: Harsh outdoor or coastal installations requiring superior weather resistance.

Each enclosure is tested and sealed to maintain the specified IP protection level for the installed environment.

Form of Segregation (Internal Separation)

Segregation within the switchboard enhances operational safety and simplifies maintenance. We offer LV switchboards in Form 1 to Form 4b, depending on project requirements and safety classification:

  • Form 1: Basic separation, economical for simple distribution systems.
  • Form 2–3: Segregation between busbars and functional units.
  • Form 4a / 4b: Complete separation between functional units and terminals ideal for critical or industrial applications.

All forms are in accordance with AS/NZS 61439.2 Annex D and designed to limit the risk of arc faults and accidental contact.

Cable Entry Configuration

To suit different site layouts, our LV switchboards are available with flexible cable entry options:

  • Top or Bottom Entry – depending on site cable routing.
  • Front or Rear Access – for ease of termination and maintenance.
  • Glanded or Bus Duct Entry – to maintain IP integrity and mechanical protection.

Cable compartments are designed with adequate space for bending radius, termination, and separation between power and control cables.

MEN (Multiple Earthed Neutral) Link

Our LV switchboards are designed with a removable MEN link in compliance with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. This ensures correct bonding between the neutral and earth bars while allowing flexibility for different earthing arrangements such as TN-C-S or TN-S systems.

The MEN link is clearly identified and securely mounted for safety and accessibility during testing and maintenance.

Quality and Testing

Every LV switchboard undergoes thorough factory testing before dispatch, including:

  • Continuity and insulation resistance testing
  • Functional and mechanical operation checks
  • Verification of protection devices and interlocks
  • Labeling and documentation in compliance with AS/NZS 61439

Busbar System

Our busbar systems are designed and tested as per AS/NZS 61439 for safe and efficient power distribution:

  • Material: High-conductivity copper (standard) or aluminium (on request).
  • Rating: Up to 6300 A, depending on application.
  • Finish: Bare or tinned copper for corrosion resistance in humid or coastal locations.
  • Support: Mechanically braced to withstand short-circuit forces and thermal stress.
  • Insulation: Optional heat-shrink or epoxy coating for enhanced operator protection.

All busbar systems are tested for temperature rise limits, short-circuit withstand, and dielectric properties.

Indoor Switchboards

  • Typically IP42–IP54 rated
  • Wall-mounted or floor-standing
  • Front or rear access configuration

Outdoor Switchboards

  • Constructed from marine-grade aluminium or stainless steel
  • IP65–IP66 weatherproof rating
  • UV-resistant powder-coated finish
  • Optional sunshades or ventilation filters for thermal management

All enclosures are designed to resist corrosion, moisture, and UV degradation making them ideal for the Oceania region’s tropical and coastal climates.

We begin by understanding your project and site requirements, then prepare detailed designs and drawings in compliance with AS/NZS and AS61439 standards. Each switchboard is manufactured using certified components and tested through a full Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to ensure quality and performance. After delivery, our team provides installation support, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning to ensure safe operation and seamless integration with your electrical system.
